Good news for holiday-makers. Finally the European Commission have set limits on the cost mobile phone providers can charge us whilst making and receiving calls when overseas. The rates we were being charged for this service were astronomical, some were as high as 70p per minute!
Whether you are on away on business or pleasure within the EU, you can now only be charged 34p per minute to make a call or just 17p to receive a call. That sounds much better.
Unfortunately the new tariff has not altered the cost of sending text messages on your phone or accessing the internet via your mobile, but maybe that is only a matter of time. The European Commission are certainly on the lookout and will be monitoring charges closely in the future and hope to bring costs down even further.
